De Coder's Cafe is pleased to be invited by the Young Entrepreneur Network of SIM to participate in
their event: Battle of Apprentice, as the event sponsor and competition co-organizer cum judges. It is
a competition where elite contestants have to go through a few rounds of competition ranging from the
sales of drinks and barbequed meat to the drafting of business proposal as well as challenging one
another in business-related board games.
The board games round of the competition kicked off with 10 contestants and comprised 3 rounds of
different games. The board game selected for the 1st round was 'Dividends'; which tested their ability to
select the 'right' shares at the appropriate times. 4 contestants with the lowest profits were eliminated
this round. In the 2nd round of games, the contestants played 'I'm the Boss'; which tested their
negotiation skills as the contestants need to debate about the splitting of profits during each business
deal, besides outwitting their opponents. 2 contestants were eliminated this round and the remaining
contestants proceeded to the 3rd and final round. 'Burn Rate' was played in the final round; which tested
their ability in managing a Dot Com company via employing the right personnel to head the various
departments as well as deploying the right tactics to sabotage their opponents.
De Coder's Cafe is glad to be part of the event. Special thank goes to the event organizer, Young
Entrepreneur Network, and the Student Care Department of SIM. We look forward to be invited to similar
events in the future.
