De Coder’s Cafe was proud to be invited by Anglo-Chinese School (Independent) as one of the partners for
their 7th Life Sciences Symposium themed ‘Man, Machines and Molecules’ held on 3 Mar 2008.
A group of 13 student helpers from ACS (Independent) were assigned to conduct the teaching of creative
board games relating to the fields of Science to the visitors. Visitors were representatives from the
industry, local and overseas primary and secondary schools, local tertiary institutions as well as
overseas delegates from the Asian region.
Some of the games played include Hive, Voltage, Coloretto, R-Eco, Power Grid, Primordial Soup and Mad
Scientist University. The visitors had an enjoyable time playing those games and interacting with the
student helpers. Many found the games innovative and engaging. The idea of using board games as a
platform to enhance the learning of Sciences also brought new insights to some teachers.
We look forward to future opportunities to work with ACS (Independent) and other institutions to be part
of the educational efforts in making the teaching and learning process more fun, innovative and
interactive.
